When someone you love shrugs at the thing you’re most excited about, it can sting more than we like to admit. We start with a brother check-in and quickly get into the real question: how do you stay close when your spouse or friends are not invested in your hobbies, your fandoms, or the little passions that make you feel alive?
We talk through what “showing up” actually looks like when you do not share the same interests: asking a simple question, letting different friends fill different lanes, and building a fair give-and-take so date nights do not turn into the same routine every time. Along the way we get specific about the stuff we wish our people cared about more, from collectibles, fashion, audiobooks, cologne, and watches to movies, games, and the shows we can actually connect on.
Then the conversation turns personal. Tyler opens up about a rough financial season, selling a meaningful guitar, and sending a message to Christian artist Micah Christopher that turns into a jaw-dropping moment of generosity and a reminder of how God can line up the right people at the right time. If you’ve ever felt unseen, stretched thin, or just tired of trying alone, this one is for you. Subscribe, share this with a friend who needs it, and leave a review with the hobby you wish someone would ask you about.

Welcome Back And The Big Question
SPEAKER_03So anyway I don't really listen in country music.
SPEAKER_04Not country music, but country music is amazing when it's done, right? The stuff the stuff my kids listen to is like.
SPEAKER_02Luke Brian's newest no.
SPEAKER_01Your country music.
SPEAKER_04So gotta watch for that red light, man.
SPEAKER_01You gotta be ready. Never mind. What's up, what's up, what's up, what's up, what's up, what's up, what's up, what's up, what's up, everybody. Welcome back to a brand new episode of the Almost Brothers Podcast. As always, we got Richie Rich. Yes uh, what's up, man? What's up? Welcome back from Vaykay.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah. I think I'm more tired than I was when I left.
SPEAKER_01That's good. It was good though. Yeah. Ty.
SPEAKER_04Huzzah. Who apparently is on Assassin's Creed.
SPEAKER_01But that was a little bit more than usual. So, you know, we're getting somewhere.
SPEAKER_04We're making progress.
SPEAKER_01And the Zekster. What's down, clown? Exactly. Exactly.
SPEAKER_03Know what I'm saying? That's what I was thinking.
SPEAKER_01So we're we're gonna do for this episode, we're gonna do a brother check-in.
SPEAKER_03What that means. What up, brother?
SPEAKER_01You see how life for you is going.
SPEAKER_03Life for you.
SPEAKER_01How you feeling? What you're going through. But we also have kind of a a theme and idea that I that I had pop in my head is what to do when the people around you aren't invested in the same things that you are. Oh how to navigate that. Kick them to the curve. Um whoa, whoa, whoa, we went zero to a hundred.
SPEAKER_02Throw them out. Break check on that. You hope you hope they step in water with the socks on.
SPEAKER_04Oh, that is a bad feeling. I don't like it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, squishy socks are no good.
SPEAKER_04You know what's worse than that? Stepping in dog pee with your socks on.
SPEAKER_01Oh that's just adding injury to insult. Or insult to injury. There you go. I've never had that happen.
SPEAKER_04Especially when you're ready for work.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that give me chills.
SPEAKER_04Now you gotta go take a shower.
SPEAKER_03You know how the sock would like um smell? Oh. So anyway.
SPEAKER_02That is terrible.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. You look like you're drinking.
SPEAKER_02Now imagine that happens in the morning and you think, oh, it's just water. I'll deal with it. It'll dry up. And you go to work and your feet are smelly.
SPEAKER_04Just your feet are this is why Michael Simmons does not have animals.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god.
SPEAKER_04We just ruined dogs for Zeke and Zay.
SPEAKER_01Oh, my skin just crawled off of my bones. That's that's brutal. Imagine part of your sock is like at the end of the day, just crispy.
SPEAKER_04Crispy and crunchy.
SPEAKER_02Oh man.
SPEAKER_04You're not supposed to be like that.
SPEAKER_02Like I don't
When Your Partner Does Not Care
SPEAKER_02but but with that concoction of sweaty feet and dog teeth. Wow, it took a turn. We're not talking about what you want to talk about. Lost control.
SPEAKER_01So how how do how do you navigate that when when someone around you is especially when someone's that's close to you, they're just not in or they they could care less about something you care less about. You care more about it it's it's yeah, yeah. Well they they yeah, they care less about something that you care about. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Like how to what do you mean like in the example?
SPEAKER_01Like so like something that like interested and they they're not, or well, and they can and it can kind of it could kind of get real like serious, but like for for my example, like I I'm I'm big into like video games, certain movies like Star Wars, stuff like that, and I I want Jamie to be at least interested in those things. Like she doesn't have to be a fan like I am, but sometimes I just wish that she cared. So like there'll be a movie coming out and I'm super pumped about it, and she just could care less to go or to care anything about it. Now she'll try to kind of oh well you like it, so I'll watch it with you. But for the most part, she's like, babe, I don't care. And it's like, I just wish I had someone that cared with me. But it could also get to get to real serious too, to where it's like something you really, really care about and your friend or your spouse just does not care at all.
SPEAKER_04Well, it's like your collectibles, you know, you it's a constant thing for y'all to what do we do with these collectibles, you know? And you wanna you want to display them because it's something you're proud of, and and she doesn't really want to ever do that.
SPEAKER_01Right. And it hasn't it hasn't got anything serious, but we've had we've had, you know, discussions about it, you know, that these are I don't just get these to get them, like they mean something to me. Like they they they hold a special place in my heart because this is my childhood. Makes me feel young. Well not yeah. Makes me feel old, actually. Actually, does the opposite like man, this toys from 1989. I played with this when I was a kid. That's not good. That's what I like.
SPEAKER_02He comes into the bedroom, he's playing with them.
SPEAKER_01Get out of my room! What do you what? It's not what it looks like. Really? It looks like you're playing ninja turtles on the bed in the middle of the afternoon. Okay, maybe it is. Maybe it is what it looks like. Maybe it is. It's my day off though.
SPEAKER_02I think it depends on um, I think that's where your friends come into play. Yeah. Not the quantity, but the quality of friends that you have. Like, I know you guys aren't deep in music stuff like I am. I got a couple friends that talk to you about that stuff. Yeah. I can feel that. Not saying they're like they're better than you in any way, but they that's what you said. Yeah. But it's it's just a it's just a different of interest. I can talk to them about this Martin guitar I have. Do you guys know what a Martin guitar is? I absolutely do. Okay, cool. Okay.
SPEAKER_04It's made by Martin.
SPEAKER_02Who's Martin? Who's Martin? Not Lawrence either. Yeah. But you know, yeah.
SPEAKER_01That's good, yeah, to fill that gap right up to at least get that connection.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah. Uh people can uh occupy different uh spaces in your life, and you know, when it comes to like hobbies and interests, you know, that's an aspect of it too.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Well, and it's there's there also has to be a give and take. You know, me and Jennifer have had multiple conversations about our date nights. Yeah. You know, like one date night should be some of the stuff that she wants to do, and then another date night should be some of the stuff I want to do, where a lot of our date nights turn into everything she wants to do. And it's it's it's because I don't want to argue about it, I just want to spend time with her and I don't I don't want it to turn into a big thing. But sometimes I just want to go see a movie. Right. I want to I want to go do anything I want to do besides go to TJ Maxx in Walmart. Right. Like that's tough though.
SPEAKER_01TJ Maxx is pretty good.
SPEAKER_04That's what our date nights devolve into. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, and that's a hard thing, man, because it you you a lot of times that is the only time you get to do those things. So then it becomes, okay, we're just doing what you want to do. Like why? That that's that's one good thing, which Aaliyah was the same way, but that's one good thing about Zeke with me, is a lot of the things that I'm into. Now he's not like a big comic book nerd or into the collectibles and stuff like that, but I could sit, we could sit together and talk about sports and talk about our teams and talk about you know things like that that we connect on, so I've got somebody I could lean on. But man, it sometimes it's tough because then I can't go to him and talk about the latest Marvel comic book that's coming out, right? You know, so it's tough. Do you do you ever feel drug into that? Like, I need you to be that for me, so I need you to like this thing.
SPEAKER_03Sometimes.
SPEAKER_01Mom, dad's talking about comic books again.
SPEAKER_03Mom, dad's going crazy again, bro. Please help me. I don't I don't call mom, bro. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But I I think you do. I really heard it. She at me. I really do feel like you are that though, because we we have a lot of the same interest and and stuff, and we could look at shoes and clothes and and stuff like that. So I do fill that gap a lot with you.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Except I have a better sense of humor.
SPEAKER_01Than me? No. Or than mom. You. And mom. Can you say that? The whole family really? I'm the funny one in the family. Everybody knows that. Why is it so quiet? Sounds like you didn't get the memo. I guess not. Did something change? What really happened? Maybe you didn't get the memo. Right.
SPEAKER_03You have to speak to me. You know what I just realized? What? Wait, just now? Yeah. Okay. Well, like when we're when that dude was talking. Um Richard. Yeah, yeah. Um, the bald man. So so um we're like what a podcast is. I just realized it's just us four talking to each other but being recorded.
SPEAKER_04Can you mute me? Like, is there more?
SPEAKER_02I I hope there's more to this than than just that.
SPEAKER_03I have more.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_03So on.
SPEAKER_01Oh, you're adding more to it. Oh, gee golly.
SPEAKER_02I'm pins and needles. I can't wait. Please tell me there's some substance to this. Go ahead. Keep going, please.
SPEAKER_03But yeah, we're just having a normal conversation, but people like people are watching. It's just having eyes on you. So, like, pressure is on you.
SPEAKER_01And you thought a podcast was what?
SPEAKER_03Write that down, people.
SPEAKER_01Oh, write what down. Write what down. It's like he he read the definition of podcast, and like, oh wow, you have conversations with a microphone. Did you know that's what we do?
SPEAKER_03Oh, me or me or him.
SPEAKER_04He's never listened to an episode. He doesn't know what we do. He doesn't even know this is a podcast.
SPEAKER_01Wow.
SPEAKER_04This is your child. I'm just saying.
SPEAKER_01This is the future of our family. The Simmons name is going to be carried on through this child. This is the fruit of your loins right there.
SPEAKER_03What does that mean? That it doesn't matter.
SPEAKER_01God help me. And it and it should. I think it should. Now, again, correct me if I'm wrong. It should get to the point to where you you begin to show interest in some of the things that the people that you care about has interest in.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_01Like that should be something that you want to do.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And I think there's like there's two sides of it. You know? One, yeah, if someone if someone's come to you like, hey, like, dude, this thing is awesome. I'm excited about it. Don't be like, okay. Whatever. Like, be like, cool, that's awesome. Ask them a question about it or whatever. That doesn't mean that has to be your interest, per se. Um, but when it comes to relationships like marriages
Friends, Date Nights, And Give-Take
SPEAKER_02and those things, that takes a little bit more effort. I know Liv's not into guitars and music like I am, but she does make an effort to you know hold a conversation about something that I'm interested in.
SPEAKER_04And you also can't be that person that's some people will come to you like, hey, check this out. I'm really interested in this, and then you give them that little tiny bit of, yeah, that's cool, man. And then you have to hear a two-hour discussion and somebody explain to you why that is so cool. Yeah. There are people like that. So you don't want you don't want to be that guy.
SPEAKER_01Uh and I like Tyler, I like what you say, ask questions. That's what I try to do. If it's something I don't I'm not into or I don't understand, I'll ask a question. Yeah, well, what's that?
SPEAKER_02You don't want to exactly because obviously you don't either you're not interested or you just don't know. So you can't hold the conversation yourself and you don't want to play it off like you don't care. Yeah. Because if it's you know someone important to you, someone care about you want to care about what they care about. Yeah. Yeah. Ask the simple question like, what is that?
SPEAKER_01I will go, I will literally, if it's like one of my buddies and not Jamie, like I will go home and and and search it and try to learn a little bit so that I can have a conversation with them or ask them questions, or maybe I I like I like doing gifts. You know, Richard gave me a compliment like that I give thoughtful gifts, and it's just from taking interest in what my friends are interested in.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I watched I watched all the Star Wars movies because Mike said I would love them. He was he was wrong.
SPEAKER_01You what now? You watched them all because you because you you wanted to like them.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And I really love them. This is Richard. I love them so so much. They were my favorite. Thank you, Michael, for helping me learn my love for Star Wars. You're welcome, Rich. Man, that is awesome, dude. I'm so glad I am the biggest fan. This is Richard.
SPEAKER_04I would say that'd be AI generated, but you have no eye.
SPEAKER_01So just artificial.
SPEAKER_02I was like, wait, he's got two. And not everybody's gonna get that joke. So dun dun dun. I heard you like Michael the Almost Brothers podcast, so I got you that square. That's right. That's right. I don't even know what you call that. Yeah, I don't either. I looked at it. I I looked up on Amazon like uh microphone square box logo. Filled it in like this idiot. And even after buying after buying it, I can't remember what it was what it said on there, what it was called.
SPEAKER_01And and I found out again, I'm I'm a different animal, but I found out sorry. I found out that a lot of the things like Jamie will be into and I'll try to show interest in it, like it'll be a new show or a movie or a song or whatever that I put the effort to go, okay. Well, I'll halfway be interesting.
SPEAKER_04I end up liking a lot of it, you know, and and and actually And I really I really did want to watch, I did want to like Star Wars and And I really loved it.
SPEAKER_01It's my favorite. This is Richard.
SPEAKER_04However, I just it just was and I like sci-fi. And I just Star Wars just wasn't my jam.
SPEAKER_02You just said you liked it.
SPEAKER_01I love I love Lord of the Rings. Like that's and Star Wars is so much better. It is now my favorite. This is Richard. I thought you just said you didn't like Star Wars, Richard.
SPEAKER_04I will kill you in your sleep for saying something like that.
SPEAKER_02You're gonna get us demonetized. That's just there we go. We're bad.
SPEAKER_01And now we owe them money somehow. Yeah, yeah. So
The Roundtable Of Unshared Interests
SPEAKER_01if y'all were going around the table and you can't say the obvious, so Zeke, you don't get to say basketball. Tyler, you don't get to say music. You hate me. Richard, you don't get to say restaurants or food.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Uh so going around, what is something that you you would like to see the people around you get more interest in that you like? So we'll start with Ty.
SPEAKER_03Bingo.
SPEAKER_01Oh, sorry. Do you want me to go first? Yeah. Okay. No? No. Okay, Zeke, you go first. No, Tyler, go first.
SPEAKER_03No, Richard. Yeah, Richard.
SPEAKER_01Um so I'll go first. So this is something that that I'm into that I wish I wish I had somebody that I could just talk to about, and Jamie kind of does, but I wish I could talk fashion with more of my friends. That they just could care less. Like, I really just can't have that conversation with anybody. I mean, like I said, Jamie in a different sense, but like I wish I had guy friends that I could talk fashion with that I just have nobody.
SPEAKER_04You come in and be like, like, it has a cool hoodie, and you're like, yeah, I got this from so-and-so. It's like, oh God. He's like, I don't care. I'm sorry, I'm sorry as anything.
SPEAKER_01Like, man, it's made out of this special stuff, and it's got name. He's like, I don't care. Like, all right, well, thanks, appreciate it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So what's something I I honestly can't think of anything because my my life literally revolves around God family music.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. Yeah. So that's it. That's really it.
SPEAKER_02What about uh trying to I'm trying to think of like other things I've been doing or watching.
SPEAKER_01Well, I know I know we were talking about um um The Office. You know, you were a big fan of The Office. You wish you no?
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah. Well, I mean I mean I I have friends I talk about. Oh, okay. Like, it's a part of an office basically. He's already got it, right? Like I know people I can make references to that show and they'd be like, ah, you know.
SPEAKER_04It's uh for me, it's my audiobooks. Yeah, you know, I'll I'll start telling He loves reading those audiobooks. Don't start, yeah.
SPEAKER_01But I'll start telling people about a certain book series or whatever, and then they get that glazed over look, and it's like, dang, man, I just wish I could really just sit and okay. That's a good one.
SPEAKER_04I thought Dylan was gonna be that, and then I bought him the first Hell Doctor spoke, and he read that one. He's like, I didn't have the money for the rest of them. I'm like, what, dude?
SPEAKER_01I come on, man. That's a good one. Zeke, what do you got?
SPEAKER_03Um fashion. 2K.
SPEAKER_01That's basketball. You can't you can't use that one. Um that that is one thing. He's starting to now get more into clothes and shoes and stuff like that. So that's pretty cool.
SPEAKER_00Cologne, cologne and everything.
SPEAKER_01Yes, cologne. That's something that that is kind of a niche of mine that now he's getting into and going, hey dad, I like this, I like this brand. And so now again, we I've got somebody that I can actually talk. That's a good one. Yeah, I didn't think about cologne.
SPEAKER_03What does niche mean?
SPEAKER_01Niche uh means something. Like a sm like a yeah, a very specific like.
SPEAKER_03I've heard of it like a bunch. Yeah. Um, and then I had one more. Oh yeah. Like, let's see, like making videos for the internet.
SPEAKER_01That's good. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I had one that he started getting into, but he's kind of faded away a little bit. Watches. Like I'm a big watch guy. I like watching videos. I like how they're made. I like the art of it. I like uh, you know, stuff like that. So that's another one that I wish I got no like nobody cares. Like my dad, my dad's kind of into it.
SPEAKER_04That's why I got it for watches, but I don't I don't like I can appreciate a good timepiece.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04But I don't like research how they're made and all that, you know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So dad, he's usually one we're talking we're talking watches, but we don't get to get together very often, but as one. Yep.
Zeke’s Week: School And Movie Takes
SPEAKER_01So we're now gonna transition into That's what's up. What's something you've been going through, watching, something going on in your life throughout the week? We will start with the Zekster.
SPEAKER_03Um I found my 2K disc.
SPEAKER_01No, no, no. No, no, no. Oh. I found your 2K disc.
SPEAKER_03Because I lost it. I don't even know where it was. Where was it?
SPEAKER_01Uh it was in the couch.
SPEAKER_03Okay. I thought I put it in a pants pocket.
SPEAKER_01Just walking around with a PS5 game in his pants pocket.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I'm like, hey bro, you want to play this new 2K? Pull it out my pocket. Here you go, man. Give it to the homeless or something.
SPEAKER_01Hey man, you got 2K? No, it's okay. I've got it right here.
SPEAKER_02It reminds me of this uh there's a guy on Facebook. He makes like these rollerblading videos. Like he's back in the 90s, has like those really big like Jinko pad. Yeah, and like it was one he like he like skated up to like whoever's recording, pulled out a whole PlayStation out.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, because you put those in your pockets, dude. Do you remember though? Do you mean okay, I was about to say, now you you you may have been a little bit older to remember that. But I mean, because well, that was before I got in high school, so I was still in Junior when those were really big. Uh, but dude, yeah, you could put you could put a TV in the back pocket. Man, it was crazy.
SPEAKER_03Um, and we watched Grown Ups 2, and I want to be like somebody in that movie.
SPEAKER_01Oh my gosh. Okay. For those of y'all that's seen Grown Ups 2, y'all have seen it, right? Okay. Do you remember Bumpy, the kid? He's like, he's the coolest one out of Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_03That's like that's who I inspired.
SPEAKER_01The dude that's like freestyling.
SPEAKER_04Dude, I mean, you had a good run as the Simmons dude.
SPEAKER_01You know, it just it it's it's ending here. It's ending here. I'm like, bro, are you kidding me?
SPEAKER_02So for any any listener, if you dress up like a black muppet. What?
SPEAKER_01Anybody that send grown-ups to that kid is, oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_04Not in fact the coolest person. Not at all. That is. Like, dinosaur!
SPEAKER_03He went by a mile. Um and um I think that's it. Oh, I started school. There you go. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01You liking classes and everything?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I only have I have classes. Oh my gosh, music class.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So and this and this is What is it? Is it music history? Or music appreciation? It's one of them. Yeah. You only went Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. So.
SPEAKER_03Oh no.
SPEAKER_01They handed out the recorders. I don't know.
SPEAKER_03But like it's like one line, two line, and three line. And it's like ordered by her last name. Okay, so William's number two. Okay, so it's like one, two, three, and then William's number two. Eli's number 12. So he's right behind him. And I'm number 22. So we're all like in a row. And and my friend is next to me, right? Andrew. And William has to sit next to two girls, and Eli has to sit next to two girls. So bro, me and Andrew just keep making fun of him during class. It's it's hilarious.
SPEAKER_01That is awesome. So have you have you got your your uh like going class to class down yet? Do you kind of know where everything's at?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so first I go to basketball, second, Coach Burke, which that's upstairs, um, homeroom, science, Miss Hollis, I think. Um, wait, no, no, math, and then Miss Hollis, lunch, and then Coach Mason.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And then I mean, you know where they're all at though. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03And then band. I think that's it. Wait, no, and then last class, which we don't do nothing in the last class.
SPEAKER_01That's cool, man. So you're excited to be back?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Some people got me to sign the birthday note of a girl named Chloe. I don't know what Chloe is. Did you tell her happy birthday? I I asked them if if she's bad first, and they said yeah, so then I wrote it down.
SPEAKER_01Then you wrote happy birthday?
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01Bad, like good looking? Yeah. Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_04I'm so confused.
SPEAKER_03I don't trust him at all. It was it was it was Bentley and Panky.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. Oh have mercy.
SPEAKER_03Panky? Not Panky.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, these are some of the basketball players.
SPEAKER_03Is that his name? Yeah. Like his he looks like a leprechaun, kind of.
SPEAKER_01He's funny. Okay. All right, Ty Ty, what you got? No, we'll wait on you, right? You said you had something. It's a little long story. Okay.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. My head hurts. That's what's up. That's all that's been going on in your life. Never goes first anymore. Never.
Audiobooks, TV Comfort Shows, And Values
SPEAKER_04That was pretty good. I want to be able to check out. That was pretty good. All right. So I started a new audiobook. Speaking of audiobooks.
SPEAKER_02But I hit that red button.
SPEAKER_04It's it's a uh it's another lit RPG series, but I have discovered they're all the same. It's the second one I've listened to. It's exactly like the one that I'm 10 books in.
SPEAKER_01So what what give me the premise of it? It's because that's what that's what Dungeon Crawler is. It's a it's a literal RPG.
SPEAKER_04It's the same thing. I mean, it's you know, for whatever reason somebody ends up in a video game style world. Yeah. And they have to achieve levels and power.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, that's what it that's that's the whole thing. Uh well, RPG is literally a role-playing game. I mean, it's it's in the name. Bothering at me about it. In the name. But yes. I just did the same thing. I went to a Chinese restaurant and all they serve is Chinese food.
SPEAKER_03Like, I'm so I feel like this targeted to Tyler.
SPEAKER_01What a joy.
SPEAKER_04What a joy.
SPEAKER_01Sorry, no, go ahead.
SPEAKER_04So anyway, I I I just don't want it to get monotonous in the in the style.
SPEAKER_01So that the one that you that first series, you went through all all the books, all 10 books.
SPEAKER_04Waiting on the 11th to come out in October. So I'm excited. And it's and that's the thing. I'm excited. I'm invested in the characters that I'm currently in. So I'm afraid starting a new series is going to just I don't think it's gonna live up.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_04Because I like the writing style of the author that did the other one.
SPEAKER_01How long how long until the next book?
SPEAKER_04October.
SPEAKER_01Oh, so not too bad. Yeah, so okay, okay. But I don't know how many he's gonna do. Well, you have Gat. I thought you had Gatsby on there. I do. Yeah, sorry.
SPEAKER_04I do now, yeah. So yeah, I'll uh I'll check that out. But uh Reacher season four, um a couple episodes in. Yeah, dude. He's so good. Okay, so good. Alan Rickson is just he's just amazing. Yeah, he's a and it's so crazy is when you see him like in an interview or something, he is a goofball. Yeah, like he is such a like a now.
SPEAKER_01I don't know if this is the guy I'm thinking of.
SPEAKER_04Let me look like six eight. He's a big dude.
SPEAKER_03He's pretty tall.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Um, because I seen I seen one actor in interview, and he said, yeah, he says some pretty outlandish stuff, and I'm like, nah, that I'm out. I'm out on that show. Yeah, and he was the one that that did it. So, but anyway, sorry. It's it's hard for me to have you ever heard um separate the the artist from their art? Yeah, it's hard for me to do that.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that's because you get too intellectually involved. I really do, yeah.
SPEAKER_01And it sucks because I yeah, and that's the same way with music.
SPEAKER_04I can listen to an artist, a musician, I can listen to their music without giving a crap what their political stance is. Yeah, and you're not that way, yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's bad. And it's just it's even more than that, just a jerk. Yeah. You know, I just can't, I just uh no. And I know it's impossible, but if for me, I'm not gonna give them my money or time. You know, if you're a jerk, I just won't give you my money or time, you know. That's that's and it's impossible to do with everybody, I get it.
SPEAKER_04But well, and I mean you'd drive yourself well, I'd say you drive yourself crazy, but you're already there. But you're right.
SPEAKER_02Your destination is on the you have arrived at your destination. I didn't go anywhere.
SPEAKER_04But you would you drive yourself crazy just like going through content and stuff, but anyway.
SPEAKER_01Sorry, I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_04It's okay. Reach your season four is really, really good, despite Alan Rickson's personal views.
SPEAKER_01I'm not, I'm so sorry, dude. I'm trying to get invested, man.
SPEAKER_04I'm asking questions. I'm sorry. So uh yeah, that's and then there's a new NCIS coming out this season. Yeah. NCIS New York, which I'm super excited about.
SPEAKER_01Do those change up from season to season, or is it kind of the same?
SPEAKER_04No, it it's they're spin-offs.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so just complete different.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so I mean, I'm not going to list them all, but it's there's several of them in CIS, and they all based out of the original NCIS show. Yeah. They're they're fantastic.
SPEAKER_01And that that's another series I've never got. No, never never just watched just I haven't watched it all.
SPEAKER_04Me and my dad kind of we could talk about them because he was a big fan too, so we would talk about that a lot.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04So it's a cool show.
SPEAKER_01I like finding those connections with people. Yeah. You know, on something that you can get into. Oh, Stranger Things for Us, you know, where it's like, man, this is cool. One Tree Hill for with all of us, you know. No, yeah. You be quiet.
SPEAKER_04And that's uh Emily is watching Stranger Things now. So it's you know, she'll be like different stuff. And it's like, yeah. Yep. I I made an upside down reference while I was in St. Louis this weekend.
SPEAKER_01That's awesome. So I heard the kids were finding some Teslas.
SPEAKER_04Oh, dude, I swear to you, if I ever see another Tesla, I'm I'm blowing it up.
SPEAKER_01Easy. Easy. Elon, Elon, he didn't mean it. Elon. We know you're listening to. We still, I know you're an avid listener, okay? I'm still I'm still waiting on the Tesla to get sent to your boy. So let me don't listen to his negativity.
SPEAKER_04Let me tell you what happened. Now, Blaze, in case you don't know, he's nine years old and he's deaf. Okay. He loves Teslas. Yep. No idea why. Just an obsession of his.
SPEAKER_03Because the dude next to me.
SPEAKER_04Probably. He's heard it in enough sermons, I guess. But we're at the zoo and this Tesla is parking. He wants to go over and say hi to the people that are getting out of this. They could be X-Merch. I mean, I don't, I don't, I don't like it.
SPEAKER_01He shouldn't do that. That's bad. Don't do that.
SPEAKER_02I guess he made decent money being X-Mer.
SPEAKER_04Doesn't pay well. But yeah, it was uh they constantly just shouted it out all the way. Do you know how many Teslas are in St. Louis?
SPEAKER_01Oh, yes. They have a dealership, so yeah.
SPEAKER_04I thought he was gonna I thought you were gonna round up the number.
SPEAKER_01Yep. There's exactly 268. 48,321 approximately.
SPEAKER_04They said a lot of them.
SPEAKER_01So that's it.
SPEAKER_04It was not fun.
SPEAKER_01Mike, do you want to go? Um sure, yeah. Uh I
Game Night Plans And Pop Culture Updates
SPEAKER_01haven't been doing anything.
SPEAKER_04That's a good thing.
SPEAKER_01So moving on. No, I'm uh we watched we watched um so we try to do once a week, we do uh movie night. So now we're gonna start doing game night and movie night. Um, but I didn't get our board game that we wanted. It was sold out at Walmart. But we it was Amazon. Uh it was that color hue one that y'all wanted to get.
SPEAKER_04Um Okay, the rest of us don't know what this game is. Now I'm curious.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's like a color, it's like so okay, you can't just shout out a game. You try to I think it's called color hue.
SPEAKER_03Okay, so you like say the color was green, you'd say like Shrek, and you have to pick a shade of green to like to guess. Yeah. Because another person would have like a shade of green, and they would say like a Hulk. Something yeah, right, like the Hulk, and you'd have to pick a shade of green that looks like the Hulk.
SPEAKER_01So you're trying to get to the one that that you're you're picking.
SPEAKER_04Listen, I'm telling you right now, do not let your father buy this game. This will ruin your family. Because I brought I can hear the arguments, and he's not that color green. He's this color green. I can hear it in my brain.
SPEAKER_02We're coming back to my ear walk in there just an awkward tension. Like someone hates someone right now.
SPEAKER_03He has a red, he has a red face. I'm gone. Say he's gone.
SPEAKER_01But I won. I think that could be any more game though at this point.
SPEAKER_03Everybody move out the way.
SPEAKER_04Sorry, go ahead.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but uh still reading Gatsby. Um, me and Jamie restarted. Wait, there's a throwback now. All right. We restarted watching Newlyweds with Nick and Jessica.
SPEAKER_04Never seen it.
SPEAKER_01So good. Never one first wife. Yes. So we have it on DVD, and we man, we was like, because we used to watch it all the time. So uh started re-watching that. Um waiting, still waiting on um Lego Batman to come out, and then we got Fire Emblem coming out on Switch, so waiting on those two games to come out. Those are games, right? Yeah, yeah. So those are gonna be really good. Waiting on those and school club school close shopping. So every week I try to get try to get a little bit more for the for the kids. Yep. I mean, you gotta split it apart at this point, man. I gotta do this.
SPEAKER_04Do what Jennifer does and get just get giant loans.
SPEAKER_01Just get it all and go, I don't know where I don't know.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, no, no, just sell kids and then you don't know. Right.
SPEAKER_01So we're we're getting you're getting rid of the source of the problem. Yeah, getting ready for uh getting ready for their school year, so I'm just slowly getting them stuff.
SPEAKER_03So high school moves so much faster than elementary school, and you have so much more freedom too. Yeah, like freedom, like you could just go to lunch like whenever, whenever the bell rings.
SPEAKER_01Uh for Sam, I was like, I don't think that's a just go whenever I'm out. It's a fun fact. I I went down a rabbit hole because um um National Treasure 3 has begun production.
SPEAKER_04Oh, I know. Oh, we're gonna be able to do that.
SPEAKER_01So that's gonna be yeah, that's gonna be really good.
SPEAKER_03And also, guys, so we voted for um class president.
SPEAKER_01I just I just wish you would have said all this. I don't know when it was your turn to talk.
SPEAKER_03Listen, class president, vice president, treasurer.
SPEAKER_01No, you don't get to talk. It's my turn. This is my that's what's up. Thank you. You're welcome. So, anywho, like I was saying, um, so I'm I'm excited for that stuff. So I've been digging deep into that. I am cautiously optimistic about Doomsday. I don't know.
SPEAKER_04Doomsday, what's that?
SPEAKER_01Oh, the Avengers, yeah, yeah, yeah. It I don't know, man. I hope it's good. I don't think it's gonna be. I've read kind of a breakdown on it. It was a big leak. I don't know, man. But that's about it, man. Read a couple comic books I was unloading. Been working on the the the um upstairs. Me and Zeke's been working on that. He came and helped me, and we got uh we got some stuff up for that.
SPEAKER_03So I walked in the lounge, all the LEDs were just yeah, half of them.
SPEAKER_01Half of them fell down. Yeah, I've got some stuff we're gonna put them back up, but we did LE like LED lights around the top and yep, all that. So got the home theater working. Well, eventually we'll get the TV mounted, you know.
SPEAKER_03You got their toys up and everything.
SPEAKER_01Um but anyway. So Ty, what do you got?
SPEAKER_02Oh, so that was kind of a it was a cool day.
Financial Pressure And A Wild Act Of Generosity
SPEAKER_02Um, so y'all know uh Liv and I, we've been going through a pretty rough season financially. Yeah. Thanks with our rental house and all that, and we've been put in a tough spot.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um a very, very Yeah, because what the the air and stuff went out at your rental house, right? And all that, yeah. Yeah, all of it.
SPEAKER_02Um so basically we've worked out a deal. There's a there's a few things that have been kind of put in play, set in motion, whatever. Um but right now we're in a position where we don't have to worry about that stuff anymore. Yeah. Um so that's out from under us. Liv got a job. Yeah. Praise God. Yeah. Uh and she's actually enjoying it. Uh okay, so like I said, financially it's been rough and you know, trying to do whatever we can to try and make ends meet and things like that. And so to help with that, I sold my guitar. Yeah. Um one that I was always leading worship with. Took to Nashville, play at CMA Fest. Um it was very hard to let go. Um so uh that guy I had you listened to, yeah. Micah Christopher. Okay. So the his that song Saving Jesus. I love that song so much. And the last uh right like right before the guy came and picked up the guitar, that was the last song that I played on it. Yeah. So I messaged uh uh Micah Christopher on TikTok. Didn't think he you know would see it ever, but just messaged him, you know, as encouragement. I was like, hey, really love this song. Uh had to sell my guitar uh for financial stuff, and that was the last song that I played on it because that I love the song and it means a lot. Um and that was it, didn't think you know anything of it. He's not gonna see it, he's got thousands of followers, blah blah blah. Uh well he messaged back uh was it either later that it was later that evening, or no, no, no, it was the next day uh the next morning and started having a conversation with him um and he was like you know hearing that you know means a lot. You know, I'd love to, you know, send y'all some merch. I was like, oh I'm I was like I was like I I mean you don't have to. I mean that's cool. You definitely don't have to. And I'd and I made sure it was like like me sending you that message was not saying, hey, we need help, and I want you to send it was I I said it was it was I was like that's uh please don't take it at as that. And he didn't. I said that that was simply just because I you know not to his extent, but I understand how you know songwriters and musicians have always have that little voice of self-doubt and all that in their head. And he's pretty up and coming in the Christian music industry. And so we started talking and he was like, Yeah, I'd love to send you some merch. I was like, Oh, yeah, that'd be cool. Uh sure. I'm I mean I'm not gonna turn down a free t-shirt. Right. Um and he was like, Yeah, oh well just you know let me know uh where to send it to. I gave him my address, and he's he's originally from Missouri too. And he was like, um, so we're you know, we're in Dudley. And he was like, Well I'm I said this is strange and weirdly enough, I'm actually passing by Dudley on my way to Lake of the Ozarks, yeah. Um I was trying to thought for a second. Lake of the Ozarks and um Yeah. And so he's like, I can he's like, I know Sundays are pretty busy, I'm sure they're busy for you. I can just drop it off to you if you like. I was like, Yeah, sure, okay, sure, why not? And so uh church ends, and we're waiting in the office, and it finally pulls up. It's like 15 minutes after church ends. Uh so we get out and he he it's him, he's there, we meet him and he's like, Here's a little gift bag, a couple shirts, a couple hats. And um he was like, you know, talking to you about this, and he was like, it it you know really resonated with me because he was saying, you know, I was I was in that same position. My wife and I and our family were in a tough financial spot years ago, and I was in the same position. I had to sell one of my guitars uh to help out. And so he was like, So um I talked with my record label and they have a partnership with Martin Guitars, and they wanted to give me that guitar over there. That's so cool. Yeah, and and then I thought and and this goes well, I'm about to say goes to show more about his character. It was it's kind of one of those like you don't know you don't know these people, you don't know what they're really like. Right. Um But the story was oh him and his family, they're going to Lake of those arts to visit family. Yeah he said I lied. He said I had a free weekend and I just drew up here from Nashville.
SPEAKER_01Oh wow. Oh gosh. That's crazy. Wow, yeah, and that's so cool.
SPEAKER_02I was like I I can I I really didn't know what to say. Yeah, because it was like that is pretty awesome. Because like the that level of generosity from one someone who is is sort of a name in in in the music industry, has plenty of things to do, but you know l uh talk to me and and and listen to me and you know really heard me and was like I wanted uh he took it upon himself just to just be uh outrageously generous. Yeah. And it was it was it was kind of just a whole crazy experience. Um I was like, it's and I was thinking about this, I was like, and then and there's it's it's very much just God putting these pieces together. And it's so it was yeah, it was one of those moments I was cleaning uh bottles uh in the kitchen and I was praying, and I was like, it was one of those like there God, there he goes again, yeah, doing stuff. Yeah. Because it's like, you know, normally I don't I wouldn't ever send anyone a message like that or anything like that, but just the fact that it was him and he we share a very similar story, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So here so that's awesome. And here's my question with all of that, and I want you to be a hundred percent honest is were the shirts that he gave you in baby gap sizes, yes or no?
SPEAKER_04You ever just want to punch? Do you ever get that feeling that I just want to hit him?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, my my hands are hard. My hands are just there's like a m magnet in my hands.
SPEAKER_01I'm wondering, I want to make sure that they're an extra largest in one large in in youth. That is that's awesome though, dude. That's well, like you said, it just watching God move on something that you wouldn't normally do and move on his heart to to want to do that is is really cool. Because not only that probably strengthened his faith, they strengthened yours,
Closing Laughs And Random Class Wins
SPEAKER_01you know.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and when is he gonna be on the podcast? No, no, okay, just checking.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. What else y'all got? No. You're not allowed. What okay, so it w as we're as we come to a close, why why do you have these cooking gloves on?
SPEAKER_03Um, I feel like a scientist, man. I feel like Albert Einstein, if he was a scientist. Was he a scientist? I don't know. He had crazy hair like a scientist. I thought he did math. MC equals seven.
SPEAKER_01You know math and science go hand in hand, right?
SPEAKER_03Science is about. Unfortunately.
SPEAKER_01And what did you say? MC squared.
SPEAKER_03MC squared equals seven or something like that. What? Anyways, guys, um I won I won class, like, class favorite. Which class means like Does this have anything to do with the gloves? So, yeah, so like I was about to say he didn't answer. I won't I won class favorite.
SPEAKER_02So where do the gloves come in?
SPEAKER_03My grandma's kitchen.
SPEAKER_02So nothing. Nothing.
SPEAKER_01The fruits of your loins. I'm I'm I mean, look, I'm gonna start calling him Rachel Ray.
